Set inside a historic Victorian home in downtown Fresno, McQueen’s Bar was an exercise in honoring the past without making it feel precious. The design leans into the building’s inherent character—original woodwork, rich architectural details and old-world warmth—then layers in a moodier, slightly eccentric point of view. Tartan walls, deep rust velvet, vintage-inspired lighting, plaid upholstery and glowing amber glass give the rooms the feeling of a well-loved private club that’s been there for decades. In the bar, warm backlighting, wood shelving and a vintage refrigerator bring a playful, nostalgic edge to the space. Rather than trying to erase the home’s history, I wanted to build upon it—creating a bar that feels collected, intimate and a little unexpected, where Victorian architecture and retro design comfortably coexist.
